the mk2 mondeo td has a common failure of a plastic pulley on the timing belt. its often been the case that this pulley would disintergrate before a timing belt would snap. this situation with the mk3 is sort of like the situation with the mk2 although the mk3 obviously has a chain instead and the aux pulley/crankshaft pulley fails instead. Don't know if it's self bleeding or not to bleed the system should be relatively easy. 1:Turn the heater on fully. 2: Remove the cap from the header tank (make sure the coolant is cold.) 3: Start the engine. Any air in the system should come out it'll be easily visible as bubbles in
The other thing worth mentioning is a solid blanking plate will "fix" a faulty or leaking EGR valve - the EGR becomes effectively "disabled" / non functional, - + it can't fail/ break again (makes the car/ engine more reliable) (its a mk3 Mondeo with a duratorque (Ford) 2.2 155ps? not a Mk 4 with a PSA engine)

I have a similar intermittent fault on my mondeo 2.0 tdci 2005. When the engine is cold the car runs fine, but once it warms up and I restart the car, the glow-plug-warning-light flashes, and the actuator arm stops functioning (ie it doesnt move) and the engine goes into limp mode.
